Euronews correspondent Trent Murray has told Sky News that while coronavirus restrictions did dull VE Day in Britain, they did not stop commemorations entirely. Seventy-five years since the end of World War Two in Europe, Britons have marked the occasion from their homes and the end of their driveways this year. “The 75th anniversary this year was meant to be a very big occasion here in Europe, but of course because of coronavirus lockdowns much of the fanfare that was expected couldn’t go ahead,” he said. Despite this, Mr Murray said the day started with Winston Churchill’s historic speech being broadcast across the nation, followed by a minute’s silence led by Prince Charles and Camilla and an address from the Queen. “She did draw parallels in her speech, saying it was important to keep the faith, never give up and never despair, echoing the words of her father who also said that during his speech,” he said.
