President Joe Biden is “looking for an easy win” on the international stage with his decision to re-join the Iran nuclear deal, according to Curtin University Professor Joe Siracusa. The United States and Iran will both take part in talks this week in Vienna aimed at reviving the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement. Mr Siracusa said Mr Biden’s move was also indicative of a return to multilateralism and would provide additional stability in the often-volatile Middle East, He pointed out nuclear agreements were ultimately about “buying time”. “Buying time until that day comes when nuclear weapons are obsolete and we find some other way to kill each other in an efficient manner” “It requires eternal vigilance and diplomacy.” With many domestic political issues becoming increasingly polarised in the United States Mr Siracusa said President Biden was “looking for an easy win”.
