Disability support provider Kaye Hamilton has told Sky News miscommunication at the outset of the coronavirus pandemic about who was classified an essential worker led to major disruptions of disability services. She said those disruptions then caused some disability services to be halted. “The disruption came as well because obviously you’re dealing with a population group which thrive on routine and that was somewhat completely chaotic,” Ms Hamilton said. “We need to stick to the fact that disabilities does fall under the essential services, so just encouraging those providers to be adequately trained and reaching out during those lockdowns and trying to keep that one-on-one community engagement and social participation going for those people.”
