Australian British Chamber of Commerce CEO David McCredie says it was “terrific” to see a “sense of normality” return with the G7 summit in London where foreign ministers met face to face. Foreign ministers from the world’s leading economies, including Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne, gathered in London this week for in person talks for the first time in two years. “I know the Indian foreign minister wasn’t able unfortunately to join the meetings in person after a positive COVID test in his entourage,” Mr McCredie. “But it’s terrific to see diplomacy getting back to that normal state of having people seeing each other face to face.” Mr McCredie told Sky News there wasn’t really any big surprises to come out of the G7 meeting which had a big focus on COVID and climate change. “I think we’re pretty comfortable with many of the outcomes, the sorts of things that you’d expect,” he said. “There’s some rhetoric about Russia and the Ukraine, what’s happening in China in terms of human rights in particular. “And also reinforcing the international rules-based system that allows us to trade with confidence with other countries and really asking China to step up with that".
