Victoria will reimpose a mask mandate and restrictions on gatherings across Greater Melbourne from 6pm tonight after recording one new local COVID-19 infection overnight. Acting Premier James Merlino this morning confirmed the four community infections identified yesterday are included in today’s numbers, taking the total caseload for the past 24 hours to five. He also announced that from this evening, private household gatherings will be capped at five visitors a day, while public gatherings will be capped at 30. Face masks will also need to be worn indoors. Victorians who live in Greater Melbourne will still be able to travel to regional areas, however, they must continue to operate under restrictions imposed in metropolitan areas. The latest recorded infection was a man in his 60s.
