Websites across Australia and the globe went down overnight after a major internet outage, allegedly caused by an issue at the American content delivery service Fastly. Dozens of sites went down as an online outage caused major digital disruption when local servers could not connect to the main hub. The service which caused the disruption specialised in content delivery networks which take data wanted by users and place them not in one location but in various points, thereby increasing speed of connectivity. The outage has highlighted the issue with relying on just one such network as when it does fail, many people are left without connection.
