Residents threatened by the Caldor Fire burning in El Dorado County, California, were forced to evacuate on Tuesday, August 17, as the blaze experienced “unprecedented” fire behavior into Wednesday morning. Two civilian injuries were reported and 5,897 structures were threatened as of Wednesday after the fire grew to 53,772 acres (about 84 square miles) and was zero percent contained, according to Cal Fire. A red flag warning remained in effect until 8 pm on Wednesday, Cal Fire announced.
