Old New South Wales COVID-19 tests checked for Omicron

There are thousands of positive COVID-19 tests from recent weeks being rechecked for signs of Omicron. Authorities are hoping to determine how long the variant has been in New South Wales. Old samples of COVID-19 swabs are being tracked down to work out if there was evidence of Omicron before the first cases became known on November 25. The two passengers, however, only tested positive to the strain this week. Approximately 2,000 tests will be re-examined to work out when Omicron entered Australia. There are currently six cases of Omicron in New South Wales.
