The River Fire in California’s Madera and Mariposa counties reached 4,000 acres and was at five percent containment on Monday, July 12, after mandatory evacuations were ordered in the region a day prior. Five structures had been destroyed as of Monday, according to Cal Fire. “Firefighters continue to aggressively attack the fire while dangerous heat persists,” Cal Fire said. “Extreme fire behavior, due to low fuel moisture and persistent drought, is a concern.” This timelapse video filmed by Twitter user @ThePolitiKat, who said it was taken in Ahwahnee, Madera County, shows smoke billowing from the fire.
